Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never danced before/am not confident dancing is this suitable for me?
Yes! Brazilian Samba is for everyone. Samba is a cultural dance born out of Afro-Brazilian resistance. It’s a way of celebrating life & what we have to offer. This class is all about the basics and the foundations of Samba! So very suitable for a newbie.
What do I wear?
Wear something comfortable to work out in. I personally like to wear active wear that allows more jiggle. The more jiggle the better for Samba! Which celebrates and moves with your natural curves. I recommend comfortable training shoes.
What if I don’t pick it up instantly?
The beauty of Samba is the work is never done, it is always evolving with you and your body. The basic step is something that even the most seasoned Brazilian Samba dancers are constantly working on. I like to teach a mindset of micro-growth. Every class you come to, focus on taking away one micro-improvement and make note of it. Maybe it’s simply that you showed up!
Is Brazilian Samba the big beautiful costumes?
Yes Brazilian Samba is iconic because of Carnaval - the big parade in Rio with the gorgeous costumes! But there are so many facets of Samba. Samba is originally just bare foot, dancing in the streets, dancing in community. It's the live drums, people feeling the rhythm and expressing themselves!
Can I come casually?
Absolutely. I understand how tricky it can be to get out the house sometimes with babies, kids, work, partners. I hope that this becomes time for you to get out and do something that makes you happy each week.
