Connecting to the Ground

When you watch Samba, it is not only incredibly beautiful but it can be overwhelmingly so from an outsiders perspective.

The pace, the quickness of the Samba Dancer’s movement.

The rhythm and oneness with the drums.

It looks and it is complex.

But does that mean only “dancers” are able to Samba?

Absolutely not!

Samba no pé - which means “Samba On The Feet”

Can be broken down into a simple basic step.

The simple basic step is your feet on the earth, your feet connected to the earth through the ground.

This basic step is the foundation for what you see Samba Dancers performing.

To learn the simple basic step, come join us in class!

So what makes Samba look so complex and so beautiful?

Number 1 I would say it’s the Energy!
The energy of the drums and the energy of the dancer.

Number 2 I would say it’s Styling!

What creates the dimension and the interesting characteristics is in styling which includes many different elements like:

Samba On Tippy Toes

Adding Arms

Different Arm and Hand Variations

Individual Posture depending on your body type

Speed of your Samba (is it slow or is it quick)

In starting with connecting to the ground you can evolve your Samba without forgetting your foundation/your roots - the earth beneath your feet.
